ABOUT THIS PIECE
Boulder opal forms when silica fills the natural voids within Queensland ironstone. The colour you see is light refracting through microscopic silica spheres, shifting as the stone moves. No two are alike in pattern, tone, or form. This stone's elongated profile has been left largely as nature determined it, shaped only where the setting demands, and enclosed in a close-fitting gold bezel that follows every curve.
The diamonds don't frame the opal symmetrically — they step down one side in a graduated diagonal line, a structural choice that gives the piece direction and a quiet sense of movement. It's a considered compositional decision, not decoration for its own sake.
On the reverse, a hand-engraved scroll detail sits out of sight. It's the kind of detail that belongs to the wearer alone, present whether anyone notices it or not. Everything here has been worked by hand in the Jon Crosbie workshop. The proportions, the bezel weight, the finish; each is a made decision, not a default.

STYLING NOTES
The vertical drop of the pendant draws the eye downward, making it particularly well-suited to open necklines; a V-neck, wide scoop, or low-cut evening dress. The warm gold bezel and opal's natural green-amber-blue shift means it moves across colour palettes easily: earthy tones, deep navies, and warm neutrals all work without effort. Wear it alone as supplied, or transfer to a longer 18ct chain if you prefer it to sit lower. The piece is complete as it is, it doesn't need to be stacked, though a fine plain band on the wrist is a natural companion.
